Chronology of cameras Ihagee

The Exakta Varex succeeds the Kine Exakta II in February 1950; it is the first Ihagee camera to have an interchangeable viewfinder system. The hood is removable, it can be replaced by the special Varex prism which allows viewing and vertical framing at eye level.

The presented model is the first variation with the guide of the film which is attached and screwed. In the second variation, it is integral.
The back of the camera is removable. Four contacts, located on either side of the lens, are marked with E for the electronic flash flash and V for magnesium.
The cocking lever and speeds selector are on the right (left hand for the user) and the large button on the left is used to adjust the slow speeds (1.5 to 12 s) and the self-timer (12 sec) ; both functions can be combined.

The leather on the bottom is stamped "Made in Germany".

The Exakta Varex is the start of a  long range of cameras as well as a system with many lenses and accessories, some of which are offered by manufacturers other than Ihagee as the prism-light meter A.Schacht Travemat.
